What is a Youth Court.
Youth courts (also called teen, peer, and student courts) are diversion programs in which youth are sentenced by their peers (The youth volunteers) for minor crimes. Youth Court programs offer communities an opportunity to provide immediate consequences for primarily first-time youth offenders. Youth court diversion programs are intended to offer an alternative to the traditional juvenile justice system and school disciplinary proceedings. Typically, youth court offenders are first-time offenders between ages 12 and 18 who have been charged with misdemeanor.
Who Can Volunteer
Anyone between the age 12-18, who is interested can take the Youth Court training course that we hold twice a year, and if choose to continue in the program and take real cases. We also welcome adult volunteers to come help out.
